Al Rajhi Bank Malaysia (ARBM) and Mastercard have recently announced a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing financial services for individuals undertaking Haj and Umrah pilgrimages. This collaboration seeks to provide seamless, convenient, and secure financial solutions for pilgrims traveling to Saudi Arabia.
The partnership introduces a new debit card linked to the Al Rajhi Bank digital banking application. Key features of this offering include instant card issuance, a multi-currency wallet supporting both Malaysian Ringgit (MYR) and Saudi Riyal (SAR), and competitive exchange rates. Pilgrims will also benefit from fee-free cash withdrawals at any Al Rajhi Bank ATM located in Saudi Arabia.
This initiative is designed to offer a safer and more efficient alternative to carrying large sums of physical cash or relying on traditional money changers, thereby alleviating common financial concerns during the pilgrimage. The debit card leverages Mastercard’s extensive global acceptance network, providing pilgrims with secure payment options worldwide.
Zarif Soh, the Chief Executive Officer of Al Rajhi Bank Malaysia, highlighted the partnership’s goal of making the pilgrims’ journey financially hassle-free and promoting digital payment methods. Beena Pothen, Country Manager of Mastercard Malaysia & Brunei, underscored Mastercard’s commitment to providing secure and convenient financial services for travelers, supporting a cashless economy. This collaboration aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which aims to improve the pilgrim experience, and ARBM’s commitment to offering Shariah-compliant digital banking solutions. Al Rajhi Bank, the parent company of ARBM, has a significant presence in Saudi Arabia, including its relationship with the Saudi National Bank (SNB).
