The Hungarian low-cost airline, Wizz Air, decided to suspend 21 flights in Romania. The measure is temporary and comes after the problems with the Pratt & Whitney engines.
According to airportal.hu, the Hungarian budget airline temporarily suspends 21 of its Romanian flights in the next few months because of the compulsory verification of the Pratt & Whitney engines.
The measure concerns six airports: Bucharest, Kolozsvár (Cluj Napoca), Temesvár (Timișoara), Marosvásárhely (Târgu Mureș), Craiova, and Iași.
Some flights will be suspended end-March and April. Several summer flights will not commute in the summer.
Last year, Wizz Air was the leading airline in Romania, where the low-cost airline operates six bases. Their market share is 57%.
At the end of December, 13 planes were out of service due to the problems of the Pratt & Whitney engines. Because of that, the producer paid a penalty for Wizz Air. By 24 January, that number rose to 33. Until the end of March, the number of planes not in service will reach 40.
Before, the company calculated 45 planes by the end of March. That is a quarter of their fleet. The average reparation time of the planes is 300 days. However, the airline does not plan to close any bases.
In the next business year, 30 new A321neo planes will arrive and the prolonged lease of 13 aircraft. Furthermore, three dry-lease planes will increase Wizz Air’s fleet.
