Wizz Air, the Hungarian low-cost airline, will restart its flight between Debrecen, Hungary’s second biggest city.
According to dehir.hu, a local news outlet, Wizz Air will fly to the Israeli destination, Tel-Aviv, from Debrecen. Debrecen hosts a respected university, thousands of foreigners, BMW’s new manufacturing plant, R+D facilities, and the Israeli Teva Pharmaceuticals with Tel Aviv in Israel.
The first plane will take off on 18 June from the runway of the Debrecen International Airport, Zsuzsa Trubek, the communications manager of the budget airline, told dehir.hu.
Wizz Air will connect Debrecen with Tel Aviv
Scheduled flights between Debrecen and Tel Aviv began to carry passengers in 2017 but were suspended several times. First, that happened after the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, and the last time the airline cancelled its Tel Aviv flights was due to the war in Gaza.
Debrecen hosts one of Israel’s “flagship” companies, Teva Pharmaceuticals. Therefore, demand is huge for a regular flight between the city and Tel Aviv.
Interestingly, Wizz Air restarted its Budapest-Tel Aviv flight in March, but they postponed doing so in the case of Debrecen.
Trubek highlighted that they would not change the departure date of the first plane to Tel Aviv: it will happen on 18 June, and flights will commute between the two cities twice a week.
According to dehir.hu, Debrecen’s tourism sector will benefit from the new service since the number of guests from Israel has risen significantly in the past few years. For example, it happened several times that more than 100 guests checked in to the city’s famous Aquaticum Hotel, all arriving on the same plane.

Wizz Air and Lufthansa fly from Debrecen to multiple destinations
The last time Wizz Air launched a new flight from Debrecen was last December, and the destination was Rome. We detailed that HERE.
According to Trubek, the new flight was successful. The trend is different in Debrecen than in Budapest. People there book their flights in advance, and it happens only rarely that passengers buy last-minute tickets.
Wizz Air’s first flight to Istanbul will take off a month later. The airline’s communications manager said demand is moderate for the spring season. But many people already booked their summer flights to the Turkish metropolis.

Wizz Air commutes to London, Larnaca (Cyprus), Eindhoven from Debrecen. Furthermore, you can travel to Munich from Debrecen with Lufthansa. That should not be surprising since BMW is to move its new European plant to the Hungarian city.
Wizz Air will relaunch its seasonal flights from Debrecen to Antala, Corfu and Burgas this summer. The flights will carry passengers until autumn. The good news is that the first Burgas flight will take off in April instead of May.
