Summary
- The carrier’s average summer flight is blocked at 2h 40m.
- Eleven routes are 6h or more.
- At 6h 45m, its longest service is Abu Dhabi to Rome Fiumicino, with crew overnighting in Italy – unusual for Wizz Air.
The Wizz Air Group airlines plan 947 routes this summer season, based on what the ultra-low-cost carrier supplied to OAG at the end of March. Examining all routes shows that the average flight has a block or scheduled time of 2h 40m. In contrast, it is about 2h 15m for easyJet and 2h for Ryanair.
Wizz Air’s longest routes: summer 2024
The following table lists Wizz Air’s flights blocked at six hours or more. This includes taxi time at both airports, flight time, and a period for short delays. It reflects slot possession at slot-controlled airports.
The examination comes amid the operator’s continuing challenges, mainly due to engine problems. It barely expects to grow this summer, with much more use of older ceo rather than neo aircraft. It recently removed 103 more routes from its network, with a full list here.
Wow: Wizz Air To Grow By Under 2% This Summer As Engine Problems Bite
This was the situation in early March.
The table is organized by maximum block time, which applies to a specific direction. To avoid double-counting, the other direction is not listed, even if it is six+ hours. Some directions have varied block times.

A look at Amman back to Luton
Wizz Air began the 2,298-mile (3,699 km) route in December 2022. It was the first time Luton – the carrier’s most-served airport – had flights to the Jordanian capital. Jordan is keen to develop tourism and even has EU open skies, although progress has been relatively slow.

According to the UK Civil Aviation Authority, Wizz Air carried 71,041 roundtrip passengers on the route last year. When related to seats for sale, it had an average seat load factor of 86%.
As always, this is only part of the performance picture, with fare and costs required. However, as frequencies have risen from three to four weekly, it must be doing sufficiently well, obviously helped by whatever financial incentives it negotiated.

Analyzing the schedule shows that flights from Amman back to Luton are blocked at either 5h 45m or 6h 0m. As the list is based on the maximum, only 6h 0m is included.
However, as is sometimes the case, things aren’t this straightforward. To avoid Israeli airspace because of the war, flights overfly Egypt, which sometimes means the flight duration is longer than the scheduled time.
According to Flightradar24, the maximum duration thus far was 6h 26m on January 19. Naturally, this further impacts punctuality and the crew’s duty time. On that specific date, the operating aircraft, G-WUKZ (which I’ve flown a few times), left Jordan at 23:22 and arrived in the UK at 02:48. Fun!
