Wizz Air, the leading carrier at London Luton Airport (LLA), has reached a significant milestone by welcoming its 70 millionth passenger. The landmark achievement was commemorated with a special celebration for a passenger arriving from Tirana, marking a momentous occasion in the airline’s history at LLA.
As the largest operator at LLA, Wizz Air boasts a fleet of 11 aircraft at the airport, conducting 50 return flights daily to 60 destinations across 28 countries. The airline’s substantial presence at LLA underscores its commitment to offering an expansive route network and supporting the travel needs of passengers in the UK and beyond. Additionally, Wizz Air has announced special flights to Germany for the upcoming UEFA European Football Championships, facilitating travel for England fans eager to support their team.
Jonathan Rayner, Chief Commercial Officer at London Luton Airport, praised the longstanding partnership between LLA and Wizz Air, which began with the airline’s inaugural flight from Katowice nearly two decades ago. Rayner highlighted the collaborative efforts that have driven sustained growth in passenger numbers and an enriched destination portfolio, as well as initiatives promoting sustainable aviation practices. Rayner expressed anticipation for future milestones and a continued focus on enhancing the passenger experience at LLA.
Zsazsa Trubek, Corporate Communications Manager of Wizz Air, expressed the airline’s deep connection to London Luton Airport, noting it as the location of their UK head office and the primary base for its UK flights. Trubek attributed the achievement of the 70 million passenger milestone to the hard work and passion of Wizz Air’s staff and looked forward to further success and growth at LLA.
In a move towards sustainability, Wizz Air announced plans to transition its LLA base to an all A321neo fleet by 2025. The newer aircraft model promises significant environmental benefits, including a reduction in noise, fuel consumption, and nitrogen oxide emissions, aligning with the airline’s commitment to eco-friendly operations.
Currently, Wizz Air employs nearly 600 individuals at its LLA base and is gearing up to celebrate its 20th anniversary, reflecting on two decades of exceptional service and expansion.
