Wizz Air Flight Diverted After Smoke Fills Cabin
A Wizz Air flight was forced to make an emergency landing in Rome after smoke filled the aircraft’s cabin. The plane, which had departed from Gatwick Airport, was en route to Catania, Sicily, when the incident occurred.
The flight, WZZ2393, experienced the issue approximately one hour into its journey. Passengers reported seeing smoke coming from an overhead compartment.
Following the discovery of the smoke, the pilots initiated a diversion to Rome Fiumicino Airport. The aircraft landed safely, and all passengers and crew were disembarked without injury.
Emergency services were present at the airport upon the plane’s arrival. Initial reports suggest the smoke may have originated from an overhead locker. The cause of the smoke is currently under investigation.
A Wizz Air spokesperson confirmed the incident and stated that the airline is cooperating fully with the authorities to determine the cause. Passengers were rebooked onto alternative flights to their final destination.
