Wizz Air received a “B” score in the 2023 climate ranking by the global environmental disclosure nonprofit organization CDP, improving its 2022 rating by two grades according to a press release sent to the Budapest Business Journal.
The “B” rating in the CDP’s annual ranking indicates that Wizz Air is addressing sustainability through a comprehensive strategy. The organization also recognized the company’s carbon neutrality initiatives, risk management, and governance with the highest score for Scope 1 and 2 emissions categories.
Wizz Air continues to have the lowest carbon emissions per passenger kilometre compared to its competitors and is committed to reducing its carbon intensity by a further 25% by 2030, the airline says. The company’s carbon emissions were 6.8% lower in 2023 than the year before. The airline’s average carbon emissions of 51.5 grams per passenger-kilometer was its lowest annual result ever. Other key elements of the airline’s sustainability strategy include continued fleet renewal, operational efficiency initiatives, and investment in sustainable fuels.

Wizz Air already operates with the lowest carbon footprint per passenger/km in the world, and we are proud that we were also able to significantly improve our CDP ranking this year, especially considering that CDP has strengthened their criteria for scoring. We have a robust sustainability strategy, continue investing in the latest technology aircraft and sustainable aviation fuel and remain committed to our target to further reduce our carbon intensity by 25% by 2030.”
