Wizz Air has announced the establishment of its 30th base in Podgorica, Montenegro, marking a significant expansion of its European network. This new base will facilitate the launch of 27 new routes, connecting Montenegro with 12 countries.
The operations from the Podgorica base are scheduled to commence in August 2020. An Airbus A320 aircraft will be stationed at the new base to support these routes. The expansion aims to stimulate economic activity, create new job opportunities within the aviation and tourism sectors, and offer a wide range of affordable travel options for passengers. The new routes will link Podgorica to destinations in France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Poland, Sweden, Ukraine, Greece, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, and the Czech Republic.
József Váradi, CEO of Wizz Air, affirmed the airline’s commitment to Montenegro, recognizing its potential as a prominent tourism destination. He highlighted that the new base and its associated routes would contribute to the country’s economic development, bolster the job market, and attract increased investment and visitors. This strategic move is part of Wizz Air’s broader initiative to enhance connectivity and provide low-fare travel across its extensive European network, catering to both business and leisure travelers and strengthening Montenegro’s position on the European travel map.
