The Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) plans to implement a smart security screening system at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) next month. The new system will allow passengers to keep electronic devices and liquids in their carry-on luggage during screening as opposed to existing requirements. Enabled by 3D and 360-degree CT-based X-ray scanning technology, the new system also features auto tray recirculation, tray sterilisation, and automatic alerts for uncollected items. For passengers who don’t clear the metal detector, further screening will be done in a new full-body scanner. This new system will enhance efficiency and passenger experience.
