A study conducted by SAP Concur reveals that business travelers are routinely adding “booking buffers” to their trips due to fears about possible disruptions such as cancellations or reschedules. Surveying 3,750 travelers and 600 travel managers worldwide, the study found that 88% of travelers had to make last-minute itinerary changes in the past year due to unexpected cancellations, delays or re-routing. Furthermore, 80% said they purposely add ‘booking buffers’ before and/or after their trips to compensate for potential schedule alterations. The study’s authors claim this continuous cycle might discourage business travel entirely.
