NORMAL (25News Now) – A three-star hotel that is one of the centerpieces of Uptown Normal is under investigation by the Illinois Department of Labor (IDOL) for allegedly exploiting workers.
Laborers International Union North America (LIUNA) Local 362 filed complaints against the Marriott Hotel and Conference Center, citing poor pay and working conditions at the renovation project job site.
Local 362 Business Manager Ronnie Paul said local laborers are not working on the project. Instead, he said the union spoke with contracted workers at the hotel, who said they were from other states.
“They bring them out of their area to where they don’t know what the rules and regulations are, and then they think they can bring them here and exploit…
