BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Airbnb is taking extra steps this holiday season to prevent parties at home rentals. In Birmingham, at least two parties at short-term rentals have ended in shootings.
The company has enforced a global party ban since 2020 and is now implementing additional technology to ensure that parties do not occur during Christmas and New Year’s.
Airbnb refers to these measures as “anti-party defenses.” If Airbnb suspects that a guest intends to host a party, they will be blocked from booking the location. City leaders believe this is excellent news for Birmingham and would like to see more short-term rental companies adopt similar policies.
In a video from a shootout earlier this year at an Airbnb in College Hills, dozens of cars and homes were left riddled with bullet holes after a party escalated into violence.
Now, Airbnb is working to prevent such incidents from happening again through their anti-party defense technology.
