Airbnb, the online homestay marketplace, is facing boycott calls after reports have surfaced that its billionaire co-founder Joe Gebbie has joined Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Why It Matters
Airbnb has a reported 150 million users globally, including over 45 million in the United States. It has faced calls for boycotts multiple times over the years, due to alleged issues including fees and pricing issues, gentrification and the housing crisis, lack of regulation and safety issues, and allegations of discrimination.
