SAN ANTONIO – The hill country is shaping up to be one of the hot spots for the eclipse on April 8th, and that means occupancy rates for hotels and short-term rentals are high.
“We are just over a week out, and what we’ve seen is a massive surge of interest and demand on our platform for stays along the path of totality.”
The communications manager for AirBnB said “one in four” AirBnB’s that night across the U.S. are in the path of totality.
They report a 1000% increase in searches for stays, and even with the excitement building, they say you can still find a place to enjoy a few minutes of darkness on April 8
“Places like Fredericksburg and Pflugerville, Texas, are places along the path of totality that still have plenty of inventory left to book and are eagerly waiting to welcome guests from places like Austin and the surrounding counties to provide a unique and special solar eclipse viewing experience.”
In response to the growing demands, Airbnb says over one thousand new hosts are welcoming guests for the first time over the weekend leading up to the eclipse.
This shortage comes as rural counties continue to declare disasters to better serve their local and tourist populations, with the city of Bee Cave being the latest to do so.
