Hidden camera found inside Airbnb, lawsuit says

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (KPNX) – A family is suing the owner of a rental property in Arizona and Airbnb after finding a hidden camera in the home they were staying.

According to the federal lawsuit, the family was staying at the Scottsdale rental in March 2024.

After their first night, they noticed a smoke detector in an unusual place above the bed.

Upon further inspection, they realized it was actually a hidden camera.

The lawsuit said there was a memory card inside the camera with footage dating back to 2020.

The family called police and left, worried about what was being recorded.

“I knew that it was streamed because it was streamed to someone’s phone. You could see the video of it being streamed to the person’s phone when they were installing the camera,” said Eliot Young, the man who found the camera. “So, what I was looking at, you could see it on his phone.”

In a statement, Airbnb said hidden cameras are banned and issues like this are “exceptionally rare.”
