If you’re looking for the perfect place for a peaceful getaway there’s a realistic chance you haven’t considered Strelley. But all that could be set to change after a Love Island themed Airbnb opened for business.
Roanna Hind, 38, from Bilborough, built the “hidden gem” in her back garden, which is close to the village’s Asda. She said, “It’s a beautiful timeout place.” People have been leaving reviews saying “it felt like we were abroad,” and it’s “bright and fun with a real holiday vibe.”
Roanna first started the venture in June 2023 by converting her outside office into a villa-inspired guest house. She said: “Throughout summer, bookings were incredible. It was getting fully booked up every day, even in autumn too.” She has noticed a slight decrease in numbers over winter.
Roanna has recently added a marquee over her outdoor swimming pool with heating, so those who choose to stay can still use it regardless of the weather. There’s also a new addition of a heated bubble over the dining pod to create warmth and a “cosy feel” for guests.
She said, “I’ve recently added a bathtub outside, with a sliding screen for privacy. It’s about making guests feel relaxed, have that holiday feel and enjoy every moment.” To create even more of a Love Island touch, Roanna is in the process of adding a lounge area for guests to sunbathe.
The quirky place has had mixed reactions after advertising her guest house to Booking.com and Airbnb because of the location. Roanna said: “Where the guest house is located, people at first question if they’re in the right area as it’s just off a council estate.”
She says she understands that people may be put off by the area but overall the reaction has been positive, and she hopes to keep adding new features to her vibrant guest house.
Roanna says it’s really rewarding to see people’s reactions. As the Love Island-inspired studio is accessible through her house, Roanna enjoys seeing people walk through and hearing their reactions. “People wouldn’t ever imagine that the place is here,” she added. “It’s nice to see their expressions of shock and saying how magical it feels.”
“I had a 16-year-old girl stay for her birthday who left me a note after leaving and I cried. She wrote about how it was a birthday to remember and the most enjoyable experience.” You can see the Airbnb listing here.
