The historic Allen House at 515 1st Avenue West in Dyersville, Iowa was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 10, 1975. According to the Redfin real estate website, this house was last sold in 2021. The house is privately owned.
This house was built by entrepreneur, T.F. Allen, in 1857. Allen was a land speculator and developer. At the time, the Dubuque and Pacific Railway ended in Dyersville. Also, 30 homes were built. The railroad eventually expanded further west, and due to the Panic of 1857, the town fell into a depression.
The architectural styles displayed by this house include Italianate and Federal. The front porch is almost full length and is supported by wood posts. In the early 1900s, a two-story wing was added to the rear. There’s also a carriage house and a circle drive in front. The house sits far back from the street.
