Ibiza is one of those Spanish islands that you will constantly hear people raving about. And even though you will hear so many incredible things about traveling there, Ibiza is left with its own issues to deal with. As of February 20th, the island made a turning point agreement with Airbnb to eliminate all illegal short-term lettings. This decision was a result from an over tourism issue that pushed housing options to become more limited and inflating prices drastically, while locals are left to live in poor environments such as vehicles, tents, and boats.
A long term solution needed to be made for this short-term problem and that’s what Consell d’Eivissa (Ibiza’s Island Council) did when they signed this “historic” agreement. Up to this point, Airbnb has already removed 200 illegal letting from their site, but Ibiza’s council leader, Vicent Marí, expects another 300 to be removed this month.
