A judge has struck down Measure T, which banned vacation home rentals in South Lake Tahoe’s residential areas unless occupied by residents for most of the year.
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — Measure T, an initiative passed by South Lake Tahoe voters in 2018, is no more.
According to the city of South Lake Tahoe, an El Dorado County judge issued his ruling Thursday striking down Measure T completely.
The initiative very narrowly passed back in Nov. 2018, with 50.42% in favor and 49.58% not in favor – only 58 votes separated the two.
Measure T passing meant AirBNB and vacation home rentals were banned in the city’s residential areas, however, homeowners who lived at their property for most of the year were still allowed to short-term rent their homes out for up to 30 days.
