Airbnb was once the cheaper alternative to a night in a hotel. Are those days behind us?

A recent study by experts at Deluxe Holiday Homes analysed the 23 most searched European capitals on Google to find out where you can stay in Europe for cheaper in a hotel with breakfast than in a more casual Airbnb.
The study revealed that hotel stays in Dublin are among the most expensive in Europe but that, on average, a hotel room is cheaper than an Airbnb. Let’s look at the findings.
New study reveals Irish hotels are cheaper than Airbnb – gone are the days of cheap Irish Airbnb stays

The study by Deluxe Holiday Homes used data from Airbnb and local tourism and travel websites to calculate average room rates and hotel rates, including breakfast, to find out what option is cheaper in some of Europe’s most popular cities.
The research showed that the average cost of a night in an Airbnb is $152 (€141), while the average hotel with breakfast included costs an average of $131 (€122).
Not only did the study find that it’s cheaper to book a hotel than an Airbnb in Dublin, but it also found that Dublin Airbnb stays are the second-most expensive in Europe, behind Amsterdam and just after Prague.
Other findings – stats from Europe’s most popular destinations

The study found that Warsaw leads the list of cities where hotels cost less than Airbnb rentals. The city offers hotel stays with the lowest average price of $46 (€43), including breakfast.
The price of an Airbnb room or rental is a massive 65% higher at $76 (€71). Bucharest comes in next on the list, with an average hotel night costing $48 (€45), including breakfast.
The rest of the European cities with cheaper hotel stays over Airbnb include Budapest, Prague, Berlin, Vienna, Brussels, Rome, Copenhagen, and Amsterdam.
Interestingly, the study showed that Airbnb is the cheaper option in Riga, Athens, Stockholm, Madrid, Helsinki, Luxembourg, Lisbon, Oslo, Barcelona, Paris, London, and Geneva. You can check out the full findings here.
Dublin – Ireland’s thriving capital city

As Ireland’s capital city, Dublin is an extremely popular travel destination for people visiting from all over the world.
Dublin has always been an expensive city compared to the rest of Europe’s capitals and other Irish cities, but in recent years, thanks largely to the rising cost of living, Dublin has become one of Europe’s most expensive cities.
That means to stay in the city, you can bet you’ll be forking out a hefty sum on Airbnb’s and hotel stays. In turn, activities and dining out in Dublin are not on the cheap side either.
With so much to see and do in Dublin, it would be a shame to see these continuously rising costs put people off visiting.
