The vacation rental company is pretty good at informing you of an upfront price, however, once you check out, those service fees can really add up! It’s not surprising, it happens with listings everywhere, but a new study finds these extra fees are more common in some parts of the country than others.
Keycrew conducted a survey where they analyzed the room price, cleaning fee and service charge for listings in 84 major U.S. cities to find out just where the rip-off Airbnb fees are highest, then calculated the average for each city.
Keycrew found that across all cities, the average combined service and cleaning fees is around $250 for a five-night stay. But some cities have average fees of as much as 41% on top of the home’s rate. Cities like Columbia, South Carolina and Cape Coral, Florida came out on top with the highest fees.
