Two Texas siblings vacationing in Mexico City were found dead in their apartment rental on Tuesday, Mexican police and family say.
The victims were identified as siblings Laura Morales, 37, and Hugo Iván Morales, 35, of El Paso, Texas, by their mother to Telemundo. The mother was in Mexico City on Wednesday to identify her children’s bodies.
Mexico City’s Office of Citizen Safety officers responded to a report of an unconscious person in an apartment in the Centro neighborhood, in the municipality of Cuauhtémoc, authorities said Tuesday.
Officers interviewed a 61-year-old woman who said the pair, who had “virtual credentials” saying they were from Texas, had rented one of the apartments in the building, police said.
She knocked on their door multiple times to notify them of a repair for a leak in the water meter, but received no response. Eventually she decided to let herself into the apartment and upon entering, she found them unconscious and called police.
