While Ticketmaster’s recent decision to cancel Oasis tickets that breach its purchase terms means uncertainty for fans, hotels cashing in on the reunion hype have cause for a little more optimism.
With venues already securing full occupancy during next summer’s tour dates, the payday from “mega events” tourism is continuing to boost a recovering sector that needs to offset rising operating costs exacerbated by the autumn budget.
“We’ve had a number of guests that booked rooms before they got their tickets,” says Damien Martin, general manager at the Parkgate Hotel in Cardiff, a five-star, 169-room venue, close to the Principality Stadium, where rates have peaked “significantly” at undisclosed sums.
