Expedia is laying off dozens of workers in Central Texas as the company looks to shed 9% of its global workforce.
The Seattle-based online travel platform announced it was restructuring in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing on Monday, and said it expected to cut 1,500 jobs worldwide by the end of the year. The company said it told a portion of affected employees that day.
In the filing, Expedia said it aimed to “recalibrate resources.” Expedia operates its namesake brand as well as vacation rental site Vrbo.com and hotel booking sites Hotels.com and trivago. It was not immediately clear what roles or brands the eliminated positions fell under.
The Austin-specific layoffs details were included in a WARN notice, short for Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, which federally mandates employers give local governments notice of major layoffs.
