Apollo Sports, a brand under the Nordic travel group DER Touristik Nordic, is experiencing record demand for its active wellness trips, particularly in southern Gran Canaria. The current season has seen record-breaking numbers, with bookings for 2024 already reaching unprecedented levels.
This surge in popularity is attributed to a growing trend among Nordic travelers seeking active vacations and wellness experiences. Per Karlsson, Chief Communication Officer for Apollo, noted that a survey indicates Nordic travelers’ visits for wellness travel have increased by 50%. Apollo Sports aims to cater to this demand by offering a combination of professional sports and fitness facilities alongside opportunities for relaxation.
Their key locations in southern Gran Canaria include Playitas Resort and the expanded multi-sport facility, La Pared powered by Playitas. Playitas Resort is known for hosting three large-scale events and has been recognized as one of Europe’s leading sports resorts. La Pared, inaugurated in 2022, is designed to be a premier training center for a wide range of sports. It spans an area of 10,000 square meters and will feature a new restaurant set to open in early 2024.
Mattias Karlsson, owner and CEO of Apollo Sports, expressed a strategic goal to serve 80,000 customers with their facilities in the Canary Islands by 2024. The expansion and focus on wellness as an integral part of the travel experience are central to Apollo Sports’ strategy to meet the increasing interest in active and healthy holidays.
