Rajshahi University’s Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management recently hosted a four-day tourism fair and food festival on its campus. The event, held at the university’s central library premises, commenced on a Thursday and aimed to promote Bangladesh’s cultural heritage, archaeological tourism, and local cuisine.
The fair was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Sultan-Ul-Islam, the university’s Pro-Vice Chancellor. During the inauguration, Dr. Sultan-Ul-Islam emphasized tourism’s vital role in Bangladesh’s economic development and job creation. He highlighted the significant tourism potential within the Rajshahi region, citing historical and archaeological sites such as Mahasthangarh, Paharpur, Puthia, and the Varendra Research Museum, alongside natural attractions like the Padma River and numerous mango gardens.
The festival featured around 30 stalls, offering a variety of tourism services and diverse local food items. The initiative sought to increase tourism awareness among students and the general public, contributing to both domestic and international tourism promotion. The event was organized with the support of the Bangladesh Tourism Board.
Speakers at the inauguration included Prof. Dr. Mahbubur Rahman, Chairman of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management; Prof. Dr. Md. Hasanat Ali, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies; and Dr. Md. Abu Reza, Assistant Director of the Bangladesh Tourism Board. They discussed the importance of universities in developing skilled professionals for the burgeoning tourism sector.
