Hopes to welcome approximately 1.50 lakh Indian tourists in 2024
In India on a five-day visit, Bhutanese PM Tshering Togbay stressed on Indian industries to explore business opportunities in Bhutan’s Tourism sector and deepen the relations of both the countries at the ‘India-Bhutan Tourism: Expanding Horizons’ dialogue that was organized by industry body FICCI in the national capital. “Through your tourists you will be able to spread economic growth throughout the people and the country. This is why I’m so excited about meeting you and inviting tourists from all over India.”
Togbay stated and highlighted the mutual benefits of fostering closer economic ties. Highlighting the ease of travel for Indian tourists, he mentioned the affordable cost of around Rs. 1200 emphasizing the potential for increased Indian visitors to Bhutan. He expressed hopes of welcoming approximately 1.50 lakh Indian tourists in 2024. He also shed light on the upcoming expansion of airlines’ route network between the two countries.
He specifically mentioned the upcoming railway service connecting Kokrajhar in Assam to Gelephu in Sarpang, Bhutan, which is a cost-effective means of travel between the two nations. Reflecting on his visit to India he referred PM Narendra Modi as his ‘elder brother’ and appreciated the warm hospitality he received. Bhutan is a beautiful place to travel. Social progress, preservation of culture, environmental protection, economic prosperity and good governance are the main pillars of the Gross National Happiness Model of Bhutan. This means Indian investors have a great chance to invest in Bhutan’s tourism sector and help it grow in a way that is in favour of both the countries.
