Cambodia’s popular tourist attraction, the iconic Angkor Wat, is facing an unusual problem—rampaging wild monkeys. Officials have reported that macaques, native to the forests surrounding the UNESCO-listed temple complex, have become increasingly aggressive, attacking tourists and damaging the site’s centuries-old stonework. The Apsara National Authority (ANA), in charge of overseeing Angkor Wat, has cautioned tourists to stay away from the increasing numbers of monkey gangs, attributing their altered conduct to social media content producers.
