While spending money on promoting mega events and fireworks may help Hong Kong tourism, we should put more emphasis on getting permanent features right for the long run. Here are some suggestions (not in any particular order of importance).
Develop two separate campaigns – one for mainland tourists and the other for international visitors from other parts of the world, as their reasons for coming may be different.
Redevelop Aberdeen into an upmarket fishermen’s wharf. Cities such as San Francisco and Seattle have made successes of the concept. Lei Yue Mun could also be a candidate.
