In a music video released on YouTube on June 5, Lam transformed his typical attire to don sunglasses and retro-style clothing. Making his debut as a rapper under the name “Chiu-ying Gor,” which translates to “Brother” Chiu-ying, the song carries a profound message about the detrimental effects of fast fashion and excessive consumerism for cheap, trend-driven, mass-manufactured clothes. In creating this video Lam and his co-creator, Lee, aimed to emphasize the negative impacts of the fashion industry, which is the third-largest pollutant globally, contributing to 8% of total carbon emissions. According to Lam, this sector is rapidly exacerbating climate decay. The video’s recurring mantra “buy less, buy better” suggests a more sustainable approach to fashion.
