Residents from eight more mainland Chinese cities will be able to visit Hong Kong without joining guided tours after Beijing announced an expansion to the solo traveler scheme for visiting the city.
The Individual Visit Scheme allowing Chinese tourists to visit Hong Kong without a guided tour will be expanded to cover eight mainland Chinese cities including Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi province; Hohhot in China’s northern Inner Mongolia autonomous region; Harbin in the country’s northeast province of Heilongjiang; Lhasa in Tibet; Lanzhou in Gansu; Xining in Qinghai; Ningxia’s regional capital, Yinchuan; and Urumqi in Xinjiang.
The National Immigration Administration said on Saturday that following the State Council’s approval, residents in these cities would be able to apply to visit Hong Kong from May 27.
