(Yicai) Feb. 20 — Guangdong, China’s most economically developed province, ranked first among the country’s provincial-level regions in number of tourists and related revenue over the eight-day lunar new year holiday.
Guangdong welcomed 76.1 million tourists during the holiday that ended Feb. 17, up 68 percent from a year earlier and 20 percent from the level of 2019, according to data from its culture and tourism department. Tourism revenue surged 161 percent to nearly CNY70 billion (USD9.7 billion) year on year, rising 40 percent from 2019.
Southwestern Sichuan province ranked second in number of tourists after receiving nearly 60.5 million visitors over the holiday, while more than 50 million travelers went to Yunnan, Jiangsu, and Henan. Hunan’s tourism revenue totaled CNY65.2 billion, while Yunnan’s reached CNY63.7 billion.
