He added accusations of police conducting frequent stop and search actions were “far from the truth”.
Such operations were “conducted strictly in accordance with the law and [were] in no way based on a person’s nationality, race or appearance”.
Taiwanese authorities on Tuesday issued a statement asking residents to exercise increased caution when travelling to Hong Kong after some tourists from the self-ruled island reported being stopped and searched by local police for no apparent reason.
They also urged residents to carry their passports and visas with them at all times.
