Timothy Chui Ting-pong, executive director of the Hong Kong Tourism Association, said on Monday that he hoped to see direct flights going to the eight cities every one to two days to ensure more accessible travel.
“These cities are relatively far away from Hong Kong, so they will likely be long-haul holidaymakers or business travellers. [Having direct flights would] meet the city’s need for long-distance overnight visitors,” Chui said.
Chui also highlighted the importance of running direct flights to Harbin, the northeast’s largest metropolitan and a hub for the area.
“We can also fly to northeastern cities such as Changchun and Jilin via Harbin. Those are famous tourist destinations,” he said.
“The addition of these eight cities is not just about tourism, but also about fortifying the economic and trade relations between these cities and Hong Kong.”
