Regarding the market rumor that the Chinese government intends to expand the Individual Visit Scheme (IVS), Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Kevin Yeung, remarked that Mainland
China remains Hong Kong’s most important source of tourists, which maintains a share of 80% of the total number of tourists, and plays a pivotal role in Hong Kong’s tourism industry.
Yeung said the authorities will continue to discuss with other Mainland ministries and commissions on different measures to facilitate Mainland visitors, such as whether the number of cities under the IVS will be increased or the duty-free allowance for Mainland visitors’ personal use of imported goods will be raised.
