Kenneth Kwong, from the Department of Marketing at Hang Seng University, made the comment on RTHK’s Hong Kong Today programme after it was confirmed on Friday that residents of Qingdao and Xi’an would be able to come to the SAR as individuals instead of joining tours.
It takes to 51 the number of cities included in the Individual Visit Scheme. Kwong welcomed that move and said he hoped officials here would approach mainland authorities about further easing curbs. But he told RTHK’s Janice Wong that Hong Kong needs to do more to encourage people to visit and spend their money.
