Chinese tourists’ duty-free shopping allowance in Hong Kong and Macau is set to double to 15,000 yuan (around $2064) beginning next week. This move is meant to bolster the economic recovery of the two cities, which have suffered from the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic. The current tax exemption for 3,000 yuan worth of purchases in duty-free stores at border locations will remain in place.
