BERLIN: State Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Christina Liew, recently announced the introduction of additional charter flights from China to Tawau, marking a significant boost for tourism in the region. Batik Air has committed to operating charter flights for one year from three major Chinese cities, signaling a robust effort to revitalize Sabah’s tourism sector amidst global travel restarts.
Expanding Air Connectivity
Scheduled to commence in the next month, these flights represent a strategic expansion of Tawau’s air connectivity. According to Liew, Pudong will initiate three weekly flights starting April, with Chengdu following suit in July. Additionally, Tawau will welcome travelers from Shenzhen via three charter flights in June.
