On a historic mission on May 19, 2024, Indian-born entrepreneur Gopi Thotakura rocketed into the history books, becoming the first citizen of India to embark on a space tourism flight. This momentous journey aboard Blue Origin‘s New Shepard spacecraft marks a significant milestone, not just for the Indian space industry, but for the democratisation of space exploration.
Thotakura, an Andhra Pradesh native and currently a resident of the United States, joined a crew of six including Mason Angel, Sylvain Chiron, Kenneth L. Hess, Carol Schaller, and former Air Force Captain Ed Dwight. Their sub-orbital flight marked Blue Origin’s 25th flight for the New Shepard program, which has now put 37 individuals into space….
