The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, a sacred pilgrimage for Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and followers of the Bon religion, is set to resume after a four-year suspension. The yatra had initially been halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but remained on hold amid escalating tensions between India and China following the deadly Galwan Valley clash in 2020.
Since 2024, however, both countries have been working to improve ties. A breakthrough came in October with an agreement to disengage at key border friction points, followed by a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping during the BRICS summit in Kazan.
