Kuwait has made pre-travel biometric registration a mandatory requirement for all foreign nationals entering the country. The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior (MoI) announced that it has ceased taking fingerprints at its borders, shifting the responsibility for biometric data collection to travellers before they begin their journey.
This new policy applies to all entry points, including air, land, and sea ports. The decision was implemented based on a directive from Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef Al-Sabah, the First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Minister of Interior.
### New Biometric Registration Process
Under the updated regulations, foreigners intending to visit Kuwait must now complete their biometric registration through one of two methods prior to their arrival. Travellers can use the “Kuwait-vis” mobile application to submit their data. Alternatively, they can visit designated biometric registration centers located in their respective countries.
The MoI’s Public Relations and Security Media Department confirmed the implementation of this measure. The goal is to streamline the entry process and leverage modern technology to improve services.
### Aims of the New Policy
The primary objectives behind making pre-travel biometric registration mandatory are to facilitate easier and faster entry into Kuwait and to reduce congestion and waiting times at border crossings. By collecting biometric data in advance, authorities aim to enhance the overall security and efficiency of the entry procedure for all visitors. This initiative is part of the ministry’s broader strategy to develop and modernize its services.
