The Mumbai Heritage Conservation Committee (MHCC) has approved the construction of a passenger jetty at Radio Club near the Gateway of India, stating it will enhance passenger movement, improve aesthetics, and strengthen security. Despite receiving the No Objection Certificate (NOC), concerns about traffic congestion on PJ Ramchandani Marg remain. The MHCC recommended adding a layover lane and consulting the traffic department for better regulation.
The Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB) insists the jetty will ease congestion and provide better facilities for tourists and passengers. However, Colaba residents, led by Speaker Rahul Narwekar, have demanded a halt, calling the project rushed and harmful to the city.
