A perfect storm is brewing in India‘s travel and tourism sector, sparking an employment boom not witnessed in recent memory. Driven by surging travel sales, major hiring sprees are underway across the country’s largest cities and travel hubs.
According to some global hiring platforms, openings for tourism and hospitality roles have risen by over 50 percent between December 2022 and 2023. Furthermore, their trackers point to an 8 percent overall increase in blue-collar hiring. Leading destinations for these jobs include Delhi, NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune, and Kochi, together accounting for the bulk of the demand.
With such a demand for the workforce within the hospitality industry, apprenticeships and on-the-job training programmes have become crucial to equipping the workforce. As players scramble to capitalise on the travel renaissance, structured skill-building initiatives enable them to onboard and upskill candidates swiftly.
