In a recent address to Parliament, Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, provided key insights into the performance of India’s tourism sector. He highlighted that the sector contributed 5 per cent to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) during the fiscal year 2022-23. This marks a steady recovery from the pandemic-induced downturn, as the contribution had fallen to 1.50 per cent in 2020-21 before slightly increasing to 1.75 per cent in 2021-22. The sector’s pre-pandemic contribution was 5.01 per cent in 2018-19.
