Hubballi: Women in North Karnataka have devised a unique way to find seats on crowded buses under the Shakti scheme. By travelling in the opposite direction to a previous town, they ensure a seat for their onward journey, leaving other passengers and conductors in a bind.
Many conductors working on the Hubballi-Vijayapura/Bagalkot route said that women are travelling in the reverse direction to ensure a seat for themselves. “For instance, women from Bagalkot villages visiting Yamanur, a pilgrimage site between Navalgund and Hubballi, travel to Bagalkot old bus stand, and then board another bus towards Hubballi. Though we appealed them not to do so, they are not listening,” they shared.
