Macau SAR Government Releases Tourism Statistics for May 2024
Macau, China – The Statistics and Census Service (GCS) of the Macau Special Administrative Region (SAR) Government has released figures detailing the territory’s tourism performance for May 2024. The data highlights a significant increase in visitor arrivals compared to the previous year.
In May 2024, Macau welcomed a total of 2,908,799 visitors. This represents a substantial year-on-year growth. This figure also shows an increase compared to April 2024, indicating a positive trend in visitor numbers.
Breaking down the arrivals, Mainland Chinese visitors numbered 2,261,736. Visitors from Hong Kong totaled 422,384, and those from Taiwan reached 52,847. International visitors accounted for 171,832.
The data further indicates that the average length of stay for visitors in May 2024 was 1.2 days. This average includes overnight visitors staying for an average of 2.0 days and same-day visitors staying for an average of 0.7 days.
Visitor Numbers Show Strong Growth in May
The positive trend in tourism is further evidenced by the cumulative data for the first five months of 2024. From January to May 2024, Macau recorded a total of 14,168,084 visitor arrivals. This aggregate figure signifies a robust recovery and expansion of the tourism sector in Macau.
The types of visitors also reflect a diverse source of tourism. The majority of visitors in May arrived via ferry, with 1,355,247 passengers. Land border crossings saw 1,318,789 visitors, and air travel accounted for 234,763 arrivals.
