South Korea and China are scheduled to hold a bilateral tourism ministers’ meeting next week in Qingdao, China. This significant event marks the first such gathering in four years, signaling efforts to revitalize tourism cooperation between the two nations following the pandemic.
South Korean Culture, Sports and Tourism Minister Yoo In-chon will meet with China’s Minister of Culture and Tourism Sun Yeli. The primary objective of their discussions is to explore measures aimed at enhancing bilateral tourism cooperation and boosting exchanges.
The meeting, set to take place between October 20 and 22, will occur on the sidelines of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network’s annual meeting. Both countries are keen on restoring tourism exchanges to their pre-pandemic levels, which were last discussed in a ministerial meeting in 2019.
A key initiative expected to be discussed involves the launch of a new direct air route. This proposed route would connect Zhangjiajie, China, with Cheongju, South Korea, further facilitating travel and cultural exchange between the two countries.
