On May 17, discussions were held in Nay Pyi Taw between Myanmar and Russia to enhance bilateral ties in tourism and culture. The meeting took place at the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, bringing together Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism Dr. Thet Thet Khine and Russian Ambassador Mr. Nikolay Listopadov, accompanied by the Director-General and other officials from the Ministry.
The talks primarily focused on several key areas aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two nations. Among the central topics discussed were the potential signing of a visa exemption agreement and the establishment of direct flight operations. These proposed measures are intended to facilitate easier travel and boost the flow of tourists between Myanmar and Russia.
Further discussions centered on strategies for promoting Myanmar’s diverse tourism destinations to attract more Russian visitors. This included exploring the arrangement of familiarization trips for Russian travel agencies and media representatives. Both sides also engaged in dialogue regarding collaborative initiatives for the sustainable development of their respective tourism sectors and to foster greater cultural exchange between the two countries.
