Nine climbers, including foreign nationals, have been killed in two separate avalanches in Nepal, with three other climbers reported missing. The incidents occurred on Mount Manaslu and Mount Dhaulagiri during the country’s main climbing season.
According to Taranath Adhikari, the director general of the Department of Tourism, one US and one British climber were killed in an avalanche on Mount Manaslu on Tuesday morning.
### Manaslu Avalanche Claims Two, Three Missing
The avalanche on Mount Manaslu, the world’s eighth-highest peak, struck just below Camp IV. In addition to the two confirmed fatalities, three French climbers are missing following the event, which was triggered by continuous snowfall.
A helicopter has been dispatched for a search and rescue operation, but officials report that bad weather is hampering the efforts to locate the missing climbers.
### Seven Nepalese Climbers Killed on Dhaulagiri
In a separate incident, seven Nepalese climbers were killed by an avalanche on Mount Dhaulagiri, the world’s seventh-highest mountain. The deaths were confirmed by Mingma Sherpa, the chairman of Seven Summit Treks.
These events have occurred during Nepal’s primary climbing season. The Department of Tourism has issued hundreds of climbing permits for the current season.
