The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) recently held a meeting in Kathmandu to formulate strategies for the comprehensive promotion of Nepal’s tourism sector. The discussions primarily centered on the ‘Visit Nepal Decade’ program, scheduled to run from 2023 to 2032, with the aim of boosting both international and domestic tourism.
Suresh Adhikari, Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA), and Dhananjay Regmi, Chief Executive Officer of NTB, were prominent attendees. Secretary Adhikari emphasized the necessity of a detailed action plan for the ‘Visit Nepal Decade’ and called for strong collaboration between government bodies and the private sector to ensure its successful implementation.
The proposed promotional strategies include active participation in significant international travel fairs, such as ITB Berlin and WTM London, to enhance Nepal’s global visibility. Furthermore, Nepal plans to host its own international event, the ‘Himalayan Travel Mart’. The promotion efforts are set to target key markets including India and China, as well as emerging tourism sources in the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
To diversify its tourism offerings, the plan involves the development of new tourism products and circuits, alongside continued promotion of established destinations. Digital marketing initiatives are also a crucial component of the strategy, designed to reach a broader audience. The NTB also aims to encourage stakeholders to create attractive and diverse tourism packages.
The ‘Visit Nepal Decade’ is envisioned as a long-term strategic endeavor to foster sustainable growth within Nepal’s tourism industry. The overarching goals include significantly increasing international tourist arrivals and expanding domestic tourism, thereby contributing to the national economy and generating employment opportunities.
